Jim Rooney recently published a book called “A Different Way to Win: Dan Rooney’s Story from the Super Bowl to the Rooney Rule”, which details his father’s long and successful career in sports, business and philanthropy. The book quickly became an Amazon Best Seller and was selected to President Obama’s 2019 Favorite Book List.
Historically, there has been a critical juncture where the sports industry has often led the way in pioneering opportunities for diverse populations. The Rooney Rule was a trailblazing initiative when it first came out, and now almost 20 years later there are some mixed results. Over the last several months, Jim Rooney and his colleague Jeremi Duru – a collaborator on the book and one of the nation’s leading voices at the intersection of race, sports, and law – have been engaged in conversation on this topic with podcasts, universities, and other media.
The conversation will examine the Rooney rule, access in athletics, and the legal and ethical obligations of lawyers and executives to consider diversity among employees as well as management and leadership positions.
Dean Osamudia James will moderate this conversation with Jim and Jeremi which promises to be a powerful conversation that creates the opportunity for meaningful dialogue.
