Out Of State Summer Housing Options in Washington, D.C.
The Gewirz Student Center offers apartment style living in the heart of Washington, D.C. Summer associates, interns and students enjoy the privacy of individual bedrooms, while sharing full kitchens and bathrooms with one to two other residents. Rates are listed under the Room Rates tab on the website. Cable, wireless internet, electricity, water, and trash removal are included in the rates. Summer Housing will be available from June 3rd through August 5th, 2017.

The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and American Bar Association Section of Labor and Employment Law Annual Law Student Writing Competition for 2017
This competition is open to articles written while the author is a student at an accredited law school in the United States. Authors may not have graduated from law school prior to December 1, 2016. Graduate students in law school (LL.M. candidates) are not eligible. Entries should address aspects of public or private sector labor and/or employment law relevant to the American labor and employment bar. Students are encouraged to discuss a public policy issue, practical implications of a leading case or doctrine, a statute or the need for statutory modification, or a common law doctrine. Articles may address U.S. law, international law of relevance to U.S. labor and employment attorneys, or how a legal topic is treated in states across the country. The following prizes may be awarded by the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers: First Place: $3000, Second Place: $1000, Third Place: $500. The first-place winning article will be published in the ABA Journal of Labor & Employment Law. In addition, the author will be a guest at the annual CLE program of the ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law and honored at the Annual Induction Dinner of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. The College and the Section reserve the right not to select any article for publication or award any prizes if, their judgment, the submissions do not meet their standards for outstanding legal writing. Submission deadline is June 15, 2017.

Public Interest Opportunities and Funding Available
Per Equal Justice Works (EJW), certain Miami area organizations are still seeking interns for the summer. Students who intern would be eligible to receive an educational award of $1,230 for three hundred hours of service. In addition, students who have already secured public interest internships this summer can also apply for this award. More information is available online and on the EJW Americorps JD website. CABA Second Annual Night with the Marlins Benefiting the CABA Pro Bono Project
Join CABA and support the Pro Bono Project. Event is on May 13, 2017, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, in Marlins Park. Registration is online and adult tickets are $40 and children tickets are $30 to $40.00.

  Monday, May 1:
AAJ WOMEN FOR JUSTICE EDUCATION FUND 2017 MIKE EIDSON SCHOLARSHIP
The Mike Eidson Scholarship Fund was established by the AAJ Women Trial Lawyers Caucus in 2008, in honor of AAJ Past President Mike Eidson, whose vision and generosity inspired it. The Scholarship, traditionally given in the amount of $5,000, is awarded annually to a rising 3L (or rising 4L in a night program) female student who has demonstrated a commitment to a career as a trial lawyer, along with dedication to upholding and defending the principles of the Constitution, and to the concept of a fair trial, the adversary system, and a just result for the injured, the accused, and those whose rights are jeopardized. Application is online. The deadline to apply is May 1st.


Monday, May 15:
The Plaxen and Adler Scholarship
The Plaxen and Adler Scholarship Awards $2500 annually to a law student who has demonstrated an interest in civil trial advocacy and a career as a civil trial lawyer, as well as the concept of a fair Civil Justice system, a just result for the injured, a desire to represent the injured and those whose rights are jeopardized. The scholarship is available to all students enrolled in law school as well as senior college students already accepted in an accredited law school, including those who are outstanding and promising scholars, have an interest in civil trial advocacy and possess a commitment to diversity and inclusion. All applications must be submitted by May 15, 2017.

Wednesday, May 31:
The Katzman Lampert & McClune Aviation Law Scholarship
There will always be a need for passionate, skilled lawyers willing to fight for the victims of aviation related crashes and disasters. The aviation law firm of Katzman, Lampert, & McClune is deeply interested in helping students who have an interest in aviation focused law to receive a quality legal education and pursue the career they desire, in spite of any financial challenges they may face. To that end, we are proud to administrate the Katzman, Lampert, & McClune Law Scholarship. $2000 Scholarship awarded annually based on the eligibility criteria. Applications must be received in full by May 31st of each year.

Thursday, June 1:
THE GOODWIN & SCIESZKA INNOVATION SCHOLARSHIP
The Law Offices of Goodwin & Scieszka, an AV preeminent rated firm is pleased to support the future lawyers of America with the Goodwin & Scieszka Innovation Scholarship, awarded to three high-achieving, bright students intending to pursue a career in law. With a grand prize of $1,000 and two runners-up receiving $500 each, the Innovation Scholarship will be accepting applications from current students attending either an accredited law school or an accredited university in the United States. Applicants will be judged on their academic merits as well as the content of the application essay they provide. Essays must be between 500 and 1000 words. Applicants must have a minimum 2.8 GPA and must submit a copy of their transcript.
